Long-Term Memory

what, you want me
to list it?

Of all the fandangled new "things" they offer for bloggers nowadays, I think this one takes the cake. I mean, sure, it makes it easy to update – so easy, in fact, that there's virtually no excuse not to – but it also makes it incredibly boring. I listened to a test blog or two and I have to say they weren't exactly inspiring.

These guys end up leaving these posts that are either full of inane chatter, or else long pauses while they try to think of an artistic way to phrase something. I guess they're trying to fancy themselves journalists. A journalist can have the camera swing onto him/her and rattle off a 30-second description of an event, but it's mostly because they have something to describe.

Of course, a journalist would probably make it a little more interesting to describe nothing than the typical audblogger:

This is Frederick Jones in my living room surveying the contents of my belly-button. This is the first time in many years that this typically neglected area of my abdomen has been inspected, so it comes as no surprise that it is rife with hidden treasures. Take for example this small crumb of Cheeto, likely circa 2001...

You get the point. Instead you get people who post with:

Yeah... Uh, so this is going to be a good day... like, I'm going to go buy groceries and... and, uh, there's this cool tree outside my window with leaves like... uh... like individual snowflakes on the branch of life... yeah. Very poetic.

I, for one, believe that it takes more than 90 seconds to put together a readable, set aside interesting, post. It takes me days on end scrutinizing every word and turn of phrase before I'm happy enough with an entry to post it for you to read. Some sentences have been torn apart and rebuilt dozens of times... you're not buying this are you? At least it would explain why I go for days without posting.
